Mayor Suman Bahmani says science exhibitions nurture innovation, creativity and scientific temperament among students

St. Lawrence International School, Jagadhri, organised a vibrant Science Exhibition under the guidance of Chairperson Dr Rajni Sehgal, providing students with an impressive platform to demonstrate their scientific aptitude, creativity and innovative thinking. The exhibition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across different classes, who displayed more than 200 working models, charts and research-based projects covering science, technology, environment, geography, history and social studies.

Yamunanagar Mayor Suman Bahmani attended the event as the Chief Guest, while Vikas Sabharwal of RMS Healthcare graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. The exhibition commenced with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp before the idols of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Saraswati, followed by ribbon-cutting and floral tributes, symbolising the beginning of a celebration of knowledge and innovation.

Walking through the exhibition, the dignitaries appreciated the remarkable efforts of the students, who confidently explained the scientific principles behind their projects. The exhibition featured a wide range of innovative working models, including Rainwater Harvesting, Water Cycle, Electric Lift, Electric Bell, Water Turbine, Volcano Model, Water Level Alarm, Vacuum Cleaner, Conductors and Insulators, Phases of the Moon, Human Circulatory System, Electricity Generation, Wildlife Conservation, Hydroelectric Power, Greenhouse Effect, Water Dispenser, Windmill, States of Matter, Solar Oven, Assistant Robot, Water Purifier, Drip Irrigation, Earthquake Alarm, Hemodialysis System, Solar System, Laws of Motion, Healthy and Unhealthy Food, Food Chain and Renewable Energy Sources.

Apart from science projects, students also presented informative models and displays on Tree of Democracy, Earthquake Management, Indus Valley and Harappan Civilisation, Oasis, Climatic Zones, Indian Physical Divisions, National Symbols, Major Landforms, Dam Model and the Political Map of India, reflecting their interdisciplinary understanding and research skills.

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Suman Bahmani congratulated the school management, teachers and students for organising such an inspiring educational event. She said that science exhibitions play a vital role in developing scientific thinking, logical reasoning and creativity among young learners. Encouraging students to dream big, she urged them to utilise their time productively, remain disciplined and stay away from negative influences.

She emphasised that education should not only focus on academic excellence but also on building strong moral values, confidence and a sense of responsibility towards society and the nation. Appreciating the students’ innovative ideas, she encouraged them to continue experimenting and exploring new technologies that could contribute to national development. She also appealed to students to actively participate in cleanliness drives and help maintain a clean and healthy environment in their schools and neighbourhoods.

Guest of Honour Vikas Sabharwal lauded the students for their originality and scientific curiosity. He remarked that science is not confined to textbooks but is a way of thinking that transforms ideas into practical solutions. He encouraged students to remain inquisitive, embrace innovation and develop problem-solving abilities that would help them become future scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and innovators.

Renowned educationist Dr M.K. Sehgal welcomed the Chief Guest by presenting a bouquet and appreciated Mayor Suman Bahmani’s commitment to public service and education. He described her as an inspiring role model for young students and stressed that interaction with dedicated public representatives motivates children to become responsible citizens.

Dr Sehgal also praised the school’s efforts in organising a comprehensive science exhibition, saying that such academic activities encourage scientific temperament, creativity and analytical thinking. He commended the teachers for mentoring students and creating an environment where innovation and curiosity are nurtured.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson Dr Rajni Sehgal said the primary objective of organising the exhibition was to promote scientific awareness among students and encourage rational thinking while discouraging superstition and blind beliefs. She said science education should inspire children to question, observe, experiment and discover.

She added that the exhibition not only enhanced students’ confidence but also provided them with practical exposure beyond classroom learning. Dr Sehgal encouraged students to continue designing innovative models and to pursue science with dedication, curiosity and imagination.

The event concluded with appreciation for the hard work of students and teachers, who collectively transformed the campus into a vibrant centre of learning and innovation. The exhibition witnessed the presence of Naina Sabharwal, Dr Rajni Sehgal, Vikrant Gulati, Pooja Batra, Gagan Bajaj, Dr G.B. Gupta, members of the faculty, parents and distinguished guests, all of whom applauded the students for their remarkable efforts.
